Sanergy is an award-winning company headquartered in the US and with operations in Nairobi, Kenya. Operational since 2011, Sanergy manufactures agricultural inputs from residual organic waste streams. We collect and treat over 50,000T of waste per year, and successfully sell its agricultural end products to farmers, who are seeing improved yields and increased incomes. These inputs include insect protein, organic fertilizer, and biomass briquettes. The Corporate Compliance and ESG Associate joins us at a critical juncture. Sanergy has gained the support of a range of impact, institutional and strategic investors and is ramping up expansion in Kenya and throughout sub-Saharan Africa with its innovative circular economy approach, while at the same time entering into both traditional and blockchain-enabled carbon markets. As we evolve from our roots as a social enterprise start-up towards a future as an impactful international company with subsidiaries in several countries, the Corpoand ESG Associate will work with the External Relations team to design, develop and maintain leading-edge corporate secretariat and ESG architecture, that will enable us not only meet but also to anticipate our investors evolving requirements and needs. 

We are looking for a person who has impeccable organization skills, is relentlessly forward-thinking, has an eagle-eye for the details without ever losing the overview and is deeply mission-aligned with our team.

  • Keep ahead of trends in Corporate Secretarial, Compliance and ESG requirements and ensure all relevant team members are fully briefed

  • Review industry best practices and develop implementation strategies for adaptation. 

  • Carry out research on various laws and regulations that are necessary or may become necessary for compliance under the company’s jurisdiction

  • Conduct risk analysis of organizational processes and systems for meeting Corporate Secretarial and ESG requirements as they evolve, including anticipating future risks.

  • Propose, develop, implement and monitor strategies for current and future risk mitigation.

  • Maintain all Corporate Secretarial documentation up to date and inline with Kenyan and relevant international requirements

  • Ensure ESG reporting requirements for all funders are met and reports are completed to deadlines.

  • Develop briefing materials for the Board and investors

  • Gather information from Operational teams, prepare narrative reporting and liaise with partners with regular high quality updates for investors.  

  • Support management of the corporate due diligence and KYC processes and facilitate investor, donor and partner information requests or audits, in coordination with Operational teams and Finance team.

  • Build strong, open and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Lead and coordinate all team administrative tasks

  • Degree in business or law 

  • 2 years of experience and proven track record in corporate secretarial work.

  • Experience in ESG analysis and reporting 

  • An highly effective organizer, who is confident setting up document and data management systems using all available technologies, as well as proactive in identifying in implementing new technologies which will advance our goals

  • Strong oral and written skills and a willingness to share information; required fluency in English.

  • Legal training and or experience would be an advantage

  • Understanding of financial statements would be an advantage

  • Impeccable integrity and ethics

  • Relentless determination to succeed
